What We Do
The League of Women Voters of Dane County is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, grassroots organization. We work to empower voters and defend democracy by learning the concerns of people across our communities, studying issues, and seeking solutions. We work with Leagues at the local, state, and national levels to advocate for our positions. We serve the community by providing issue education, voter outreach, and candidate information in their own words. We do not endorse candidates or political parties.

No-RSVP Lunch
Organizer Laura Jasper invites you to try West African food at our Wednesday, November 20, no-RSVP League lunch. Les delices de Awa, 2045 Atwood Ave., seats a couple of dozen diners; please arrive a bit before noon if you can. Park on the street or behind the restaurant, which is in a Kennedy Building.
Note that our December lunch will be on 12/18 to beat the holidays.

LWVDC Forum Election Reflections
Join us to discuss the impacts of past gerrymandering, whether the new maps had any effect on the Nov. 5 election, and what voters need to do to ensure future elections represent the will of the people, including considering alternatives to the Electoral College.

Book Talk at Leopold’s
Last Thursday at Leopold’s Books Bar Caffe, Professor Joshua Douglas spoke about his most recent book, The Court v. The Voters: The Troubling Story of How the Supreme Court Has Undermined Voting Rights. The discussion highlighted the unique role the highest court has played in producing a broken electoral system.
The event was sponsored by LWVDC, Madison Lawyer Chapter of the American Constitution Society, and UW Law School’s State Democracy Research Initiative. LWVDC President Sue Jennik gave a brief intro to League and shared some flyers about our December 10 forum Election Reflections.

Louise Robbins Honored
Louise Robbins was recently honored with a Distinguished Achievement Award from the UW School of Computer, Data & Information Sciences.
Louise has lent her considerable talents and expertise to our League for many years. Among her many contributions, Louise has interviewed candidates for Know Your Candidates videos, served in a leadership role in our DEI efforts, helped to organize and lead book discussions, helped to plan programs, and was engaged in our recent strategic planning process.
