Finishing the Fight in Our Second Century
Louise S. Robbins wrote this blog post about Dr. Jefferson-Jenkins’ book, The Untold Story of Women of Color in the League of Women Voters. Dr. Jefferson-Jenkins was our 2021 Lively Issues speaker. Our first elected DEI director, Lisa Janairo, wrote this article, published in the February 2021 Bulletin, reflecting on Dr. Jefferson-Jenkins’ presentation and the work our League needs to do make equality a reality.

LWV is an organization fully committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in principle and in practice. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to the organization’s current and future success in engaging all individuals, households, communities, and policy makers in creating a more perfect democracy.

Organizations
YWCA Madison offers many antiracism programs. They offer racial justice workshops throughout the year and hold a racial justice summit each fall.
The Nehemiah Center for Urban Leadership Development’s Justified Anger coalition offers many opportunities to learn from, support, and engage with the Black community in the Madison area. Their excellent course, Black History for a New Day, is offered periodically.
Freedom, Inc. is a Black and Southeast Asian non-profit organization that works with low- to no-income communities of color.
