To see the candidates’ answers to our League’s questions, visit Vote411.org and put in your address, or search by race. You can also watch their Know Your Candidates interviews. Know Your Candidates is a collaboration between LWV Dane County and Madison’s City Channel. Candidates in competitive races for offices that will represent Madison residents are invited to answer questions in a video interview with a League member. All candidates for the same office are asked the same questions.

The County Executive is the head of the executive branch of county government, responsible for the overall administration of county government. By state law, the Dane County Executive prepares and submits the county budget to the Dane County Board of Supervisors; makes appointments to boards, commissions and committees; and appoints and supervises the heads of all county departments (except the elected administrative officials, the chair of the UW-Extension, and the director of library services). The salary for the office of Dane County Executive in 2025 is $146,692.

The winner in the November general election will serve until April 15, 2025, when the winner of the Spring Election takes office to serve a four-year term.

The top two vote-getters in the August 13 nonpartisan primary will be on the November 8 ballot in a special election to complete the term of the previous County Executive, Joe Parisi, who retired earlier this year. The office will be on the ballot in April 2025 for the usual four-year term, with a possible primary in February if more than two candidates run again.
